The First Day

He woke up this morning with joy in his eyes
Today was the day that would be filled with surprise.

He ate his breakfast and brushed his teeth
He dressed himself for new friends he would soon meet.

He arrived with excitement and a skip in his step
Walking beside his Daddy, this day we would never forget.

He opened the door and walked down the hall
Their were lots of other people and he seemed so small.

He sat in his chair ready for the day
He looked and he smiled, I knew it was okay.

He stayed in the room as we walked out of sight
We knew this was best and everything would be all right.

He didn’t know that today is the day he’s not a baby anymore
Today is the day he started Kindergarten when he walked out the door.

Can't believe that Matthew started Kindergarten today. He did great, he was so excited to go in his room. I didn't shed a tear or have a lump in my throat. Michael says I have a heart of stone. I think that it helped that he was so eager to go. I had anticipated on being a little teary eyed, but nothing. I did come home and write a poem, not sure why, but it just happened. He's only going 1/2 days so he was upset that he didn't get to stay and eat lunch with his new friends. Day one down, 187 more to go.

Happy 5th Birthday Matthew

I can't believe that Matthew is 5. He has waited so long for this day to come. All his friends are already 5 and now it was his turn. He had a big day. We took 3 of his friends to Chuck E. Cheese in Tupelo. My friend in Tupelo and her two children also met us there. We all had a great time, tired, but a great time. Good thing birthdays only come along once a year.
Here we come Chuck E. Cheese!

Happy Birthday Little "O"

Owen's birthday was actually Wednesday (20th), but we celebrated today. I was so pleased that my family from Jackson, Birmingham, and Philadelphia were able to come. Thankfully the rain held out and the kids were able to play outside. We had a great time and Owen got lots of sweet gifts. I decided to be brave and attempt to make the birthday cake myself (I actually made cupcakes). Since, I was going with the Baby Einstein theme, I made the cupcakes in the shape of a caterpillar. I think it turned out cute. The best part is the money I saved. I spent only $1.88 for two boxes of cake mix. Of course, I had the cost of the candy that decorated the caterpillar, but in all I probably have around $7.00 in the cupcakes. LOVE IT!!

I can't believe that my little baby is already one. It honestly seems like yesterday when I was in the hospital waiting to meet our little O. I can remember holding him and how small he seemed. I loved his sweet baby smell and the sweet little baby sounds he made. What a blessing he has been in our lives. He was definitely worth the wait. Thank you God for our baby boy.

The Beach

We returned last night around 12:30 from the beach. We had a great time and the weather was beautiful. We decided to drive at night so the children could sleep on the way there and the way back. Five plus hours in the car with a 1 year old makes for a long trip, so driving while they slept worked out great. Michael and Matthew had a great time playing in the water, jumping waves, and digging in the sand. Owen and I hung out under the canopy in the shade most of the time. Enjoy the pictures.

You Might Be A Redneck If......

your husband makes a trailer hitch from scrap wood, attaches it to a hand-me-down Hummer to pull a baby strapped to a carseat in the back of a wagon.

Matthews at Bat

What's cutier than a bunch of 3 and 4 years old in a baseball uniform? Well, not much. Today was Matthew's first Wee Ball game of the season. The weather was a little cool this morning, but it didn't seem to effect the kids. As you can see in the pictures, Matthew's team is the Red Sox. They all had a great time playing ball.

Snow Byrds

Can you believe all the snow? Around 6:30 this morning Matthew runs to our room to tells us it was snowing. He was so eager to go play, I decided to use Owen as an excuse to stay indoors and stay warm. I enjoyed watching all the action from the window as Michael and Matthew played.

Owen....
Owen had his nine month appointment this past week. He is 19 inches and 21 pounds. He's still not walking yet, but getting closer. He just can't quite figure it out.

Matthew.....
Well, I mentioned in an earlier post that Michael and I had decided where we would send Matthew to Kindergarten. We registered him at Immanuel. We both feel really good about our decision and are so excited about this coming school year. He has several friends from his current preschool that will also be attending Immanuel.

Is it Already February?

I can't believe that it's already February. It seems like I was just saying I needed to post my Christmas pictures, but I guess it's somewhat pointless now. Not much has happened at the Byrd house since Christmas. Matthew is so excited to start Kindergarten this Fall. He's already talking about his birthday party (it's not until June). He can't wait to be five. I can't believe that I'm going to have a child in school. Michael and I have struggled with the decision of public or private school. I've always been pro public, but I'm looking at things differently now that I have a child that's going to enter school. There are pros and cons for both. After a lot of consideration and prayer we have made a decision of where to place Matthew, but I'll announce our decision at a later post.

OWEN.....
Owen has got to be the sweetest baby ever. He's so happy and full of life. He's also the busiest baby ever. I thought Matthew was busy, but Owen has him beat by far. He's crawling all over the place, pulling up on everything, and just begining to take steps while holding on to something. Although, it's exciting to see, I constantly am saying "No, Owen" or "Owen, No" or "NO, NO, NO". I stay busy repositioning him in a "safe" spot. God really has a sense of humor by giving my two busy boys, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
